What the heck is Twitter?

A lot is being written about the phenomena called Twitter in blogs, magazines and newspapers.

Folks such as CommonCraft and Flyte New Media (Rich Brooks, alias Twitter’s @therichbrooks who I have had the pleasure to meet at BlogWorld Expo ’07 and ’08) have produced easy to follow videos and here are two of them. One is called “Video: Twitter In Plain English”, and the other is called “How To Gain Followers on Twitter”.

Welcome back from the video education and here are a few more tools:

*Twitter is a communication tool.
*Twitter is a communication tool.
*Twitter is a communication tool.

There! I have said it three times on purpose to help demystify Twitter’s essence. Fancy talk for Twitter is that it is a micro-blogging site, which allows a user to transmit short message bursts in 140 characters or less.

I firmly believe in keeping things, simple ala the “KISS” metaphor.

Imagine having to focus by first listening to the other, and then saying something in response. Listening is the key. It is okay to “drop in” on others’ message exchanges and offer a comment, preferably engaging so you can become part of the conversation stream. Use Twitter’s search engine found at www.search.twitter.com and simply type your topic of interest. It can be a personal or professional interest.

There are as many ways to use Twitter as there are languages.

Jump in.

The water is warm!
