3 Key Steps in Choosing a Profitable Niche Topic for Your Weekend Website

The below are the Author’s “3 steps” with my own comments.

Weekend Websites

Weekend Websites

Step #1: Choose a topic that interests YOU

You also have to get real!  You will be maintaining this website outside your 9-5 job.  It has to be interesting and fun enough that you want to spend time on the evening and on the weekend on it.  If it’s not inspiring and fun, believe me you will not keep it up to date like you should.  We’ve seen this time and time again.  Some folks want a website that makes them money without them having to put in much time.  I think this is a good long term goal for the right business, but not an objective right out of the box.  Expect for the first two years to spend a decent amount of time on it every week.  That work will pay off in high website traffic and eventually you can convert to a passive income website structure/business plan.

Step #2: Choose a topic that people feel passionate about

Will you have enough information to always keep you going?  I know with about this from the webdesign blog you are reading right now!  I have 45 topics always in the queue that I’m ready to blog on.  In addition, I always have things I’m dieing to write about and pass on to our webdesign clients.  In general, website visitors gravitate to websites with a personal voice.  Whether you are selling jewelry or have a blog that survives from advertisers, it’s important for every website visitor to connect with the real person behind the website.  It not only builds interest but trust!

Step #3. Choose a niche that has high demand and low supply

Not only will you get better search engine rankings, but you will have much higher traffic.  You will need to calculate what kind of return on investment you expect from the website at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 2 years.  It’s critical to analyze how to get traffic to get orders or satisfy advertisers.  Choosing a niche that is under served is an excellent way to do this.  This can be really tough and going local might be a good option.
