“On This Day…Ultimate Networking”

What a day it has been to witness the Inauguration of President Barack Obama from early morning to this late afternoon moment in San Francisco.

This post has its roots in sharing how Twitter has become a powerful networking tool.

Today’s coverage by CNN.com and Facebook depict how the Internet can open channels of connection not previously known to us. I, along with thousands of others, were able to watch the day’s events and type our comments in Facebook’s status box. So what? Well, not only could I post my observations, quips, feelings etc, but I was able to read and comment to others.  People I did not even know, and in some instances people I do.

Connection.

Instantly.

A start or continuation of a relationship whether for personal or business reasons. Or both.

Now back to the topic of Twitter and networking.

Many folks get and I suppose many do not get what Twitter is about.  That is the beauty!  It is and can be more than we traditionally imagine. How so? I was honored to be a guest speaker at the “Consumer Electronics Show’s” partner program “Social Media Jungle” and met many other people who have bushels of passion for social media and its use. Many of us connected and traded business cards and a lot of us knew how to capture the moment and immediately sent a text message to Twitter with a “Follow” command and person’s Twitter name ( “handle” in Twitter parlance).

I especially love this feature so I can immediately learn more about the person by following and reading their “tweets” ( messages). They in turn have the option to follow me and get to know me well after the event.

How many times have we come home from a networking event and forgotten unique aspects of the person we to which we were chatting?

Getting back to the practical, there are many resources on the Internet with “How To’s” about Twitter. Visit Mashable, Tech Crunch and Delicious (my user-name is ireflectme2) just type “Twitter” in the search box. It may be overwhelming and that is okay!

Let me know your Twitter handle. Mine is @carloshernandez

One tweet at a time!
