Ogle, Google, Chrome, Home. Ring a bell? It’s time to ogle at Google and make Google Chrome your new Home on the Internet. If you are still clueless, you missed the breaking news about the launch of Google’s very own, but open-sourced browser, Chrome. Now you have another exciting “home” where you can email, chat, shop, save, spend, bank, order a meal on-the-go or a gift for your loved one, catch up on the news and catch up with chums, and last but not the least, search for whatever you want – in an easier, faster and more secure way.
What differentiates the open-sourced Google Chrome from the other browsers? Here’s its USP:
• One box fits all – the address bar, searching history and search suggestions are all in a single box.
• New tab layout – Tabs are positioned on top of the window in the address bar, which frees more space for viewing area.
• Improvised address bar: The address bar comes with auto-completion features; it not only shows up top pages you have visited, but also pages you didn’t visit but which are popular, and also offers search suggestions.
• Value-added homepage – The default homepage displays thumbnail versions of the sites and web pages you have visited the most, up to nine screenshots, for instant access.
• Security concerns addressed: Chrome will open a warning screen before visiting any sites containing malware or phishing. Further each tab is placed in an isolated “sandbox” to provide stronger protection against rogue sites.
• Uses a multi-process design which for the user means, “more memory up front” but over time, also “less memory bloat”.
• Includes a JavaScript Virtual Machine called V8 which speeds up JavaScript performance. V8 is open-sourced so that other browsers can also include it.
Google says it has launched Chrome to add value for users and at the same time drive innovation on the web. They have – even though the jury is still out about its acceptability on the Net. But one thing they are spot on – “Google Chrome is clean and fast, gets out of your way and gets u where you want to go”. Check in to check it out.
